About the Dick Hacke Foundation

Mission Statement
The Dick Hacke Foundation carries on the vision and life work of its namesake by making grants available to the Marin and Redwood Empire Boy Scout Councils for specific projects to maintain, enhance, and perpetuate their camps.

Our Philosophy
The Dick Hacke Foundation is a non-profit corporation created by Dick's family to create an endowment dedicated to providing ongoing funding for camp improvement projects consistent with his philosophy of providing the youth of Northern California with the best possible camp experience.

Both the Marin and Redwood Empire councils are blessed with beautiful properties on which they run their camps. We all owe much thanks to the countless volunteers over four generations who have worked tirelessly to obtain and improve these properties. Despite the best intentions and efforts of all of us, the camps are in dire need of significant improvements and modernization, having suffered from a persistent lack of funding dedicated solely to maintenance and upgrades. The Dick Hacke Foundation's intent is to help fill this need. Our board is made up of members of Dick's family, active volunteers, past camp staff members and representatives of the Executive Boards of each council. All of the board members had long and close relationships with Dick and will help ensure that direct grants made towards projects are consistent with the way Dick saw Scouting.

Under Construction

Please bear with us while we build this site. Dick’s passing on October 19th happened somewhat suddenly and we have been working as quickly as possible to put the Foundation’s infrastructure in place. While Dick has moved on to lead songs, make painful puns and tell stories at that great campfire in the sky, we hope that this site becomes a place where we can all share in the spirit he infused in all of us. We welcome input, suggestions, criticisms, stories about Dick, silliness of all kinds. We’d even welcome a YouTube of a six-o-clock swim if someone came up with one. We plan to have a page for each camp, a blog, pics of Dick, details of projects, financial information and much more.
